Foroozan Oil Field Development – Offshore Project
The Foroozan Oil Field is a strategically significant offshore oil asset for Iran, situated approximately 100 kilometers southeast of Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf. Managed by the Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC), the field comprises 53 active wells and shares boundaries with the Marjan Field in Saudi Arabia. The field’s infrastructure and operational scope make it a major contributor to Iran’s offshore oil production and regional energy security.
The field features a robust network of platforms, pipelines, and export facilities, enabling efficient extraction, processing, and transportation of crude oil and associated gas. Key facilities include two primary production platforms (FX and FZ), an accommodation platform (FY), multiple wellhead platforms, and a network of infield and export pipelines.
Main Components of the Foroozan Oil Field
-
Production Platforms:
- FX and FZ: The two main production platforms overseeing oil and gas extraction operations.
- FY: The accommodation platform, currently serving as a temporary jack-up living quarters at the FZ area.
- Flare Platforms: Dedicated flare platforms adjacent to FX and FZ for safe gas flaring operations.
-
Wellhead Platforms:
- F15 and F16: Connected by bridges to FX and FZ platforms, respectively.
- 11 satellite wellhead platforms: Distributed between the FX and FZ areas, including F2, F8, F18 (FX) and F3, F9A, F9, F11, F12, F13, F14, F17 (FZ).
-
Pipelines: 20 infield pipelines facilitate oil and gas transfer between platforms, with 6 additional pipelines under installation. Export pipelines connect the field to Kharg Island for crude oil and gas export.
Development Consortium and Project Management
Major renovation and development works at the Foroozan Oil Field have been awarded to various Iranian contractors. The PETROPARS-ISOICO consortium, led by PETROPARS, is responsible for part of the field development. Subsurface development is handled by PETROPARS/POSCO, while ISOICO/MSG oversees surface facility upgrades and expansions.
Scope of Work
-
New Offshore Platforms & Connecting Bridge
- Unmanned Wellhead Platform (F19): To be installed 7.8 km from the FX platform, equipped with minimal production facilities, including a topside and jacket.
- New Entrance Block (FX-A): Adjacent to FX due to space constraints, FX-A will house pig launchers/receivers, power generators, switchgear rooms, transformers, control room, piping, and subsea cable connections. The living quarters from FX will be relocated to FX-A.
- Connecting Bridge: Will link FX-A to FX, accommodating piping, cabling, and walkways.
-
Modifications on Existing Platforms
- Extension of gas producer manifold on F16
- Installation of 5 transfer pumps at FX
- Knock-out drum (KOD) at FY
- Gas lift piping between F15, F18, and F19
- Methanol injection and corrosion inhibitor packages at multiple platforms
- Relocation of living quarters and control room from FX to FX-A
- Electrical power generation at FX-A
- Installation of oily water treatment package and other utilities at FX
-
Subsea Pipelines
- Three new pipelines (12″, 8″, and 6″) to connect F19 to FX via FX-A and the connecting bridge.
- The 12″ pipeline will transport crude oil, the 8″ pipeline is designated for testing, and the 6″ pipeline will deliver gas lift gas from F15 to F19.
-
Subsea Cables
- Power and communication subsea cables, with 120% capacity and fiber optics, to connect FX/FX-A and other platforms.
- Provision for future electrical supply from FZ-A to the FX area, including additional J-tubes for cable management.
