Booster Gas Compressor Station and Metering Station for Iran-Oman Gas Pipeline

The Booster Gas Compressor Station and Metering Station Project is an essential component of the Iran-Oman Gas Pipeline initiative, supporting the delivery of 1 billion standard cubic feet per day (BSCFD) of Iranian natural gas to the Sultanate of Oman. This cross-border energy project enhances regional cooperation and secures a sustainable supply of natural gas for industrial and domestic use in Oman, while boosting Iran’s role as a major natural gas exporter.

The project’s infrastructure is centered at Kuh-Mobarak in southern Iran, where the new gas transportation facilities will be constructed. Key elements include a state-of-the-art Compressor Station and a Metering Station for accurate flow measurement and gas quality monitoring. These onshore installations are linked to an approximately 200 km offshore pipeline that runs beneath the Persian Gulf, connecting the Kuh-Mobarak facility to the Sohar receiving terminal in Oman.

Scope of Work and Engineering Services

Tehran Raymand Consulting Engineers is responsible for the conceptual study, basic engineering, and Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) for all onshore facilities associated with this project. The engineering services cover a wide range of specialized systems and equipment, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the gas export infrastructure.

Onshore Facilities:

  • Compressor and Metering Stations:
    • Turbo-Compressors: High-efficiency compressors designed to increase gas pressure for long-distance offshore transport.
    • Utilities: All required systems for water, fuel, instrument air, and other plant support functions.
    • Mechanical Equipment & Piping: Robust process equipment and pipeline systems for safe gas handling and delivery.
    • Electrical Systems: Comprehensive power distribution and control, including backup systems for critical operations.
    • Instrumentation and Control Systems: Advanced monitoring, automation, and safety systems for precise flow control and process optimization.
    • Battery Limit Pig Traps: Facilities for pipeline maintenance and inspection using intelligent pigging technology.
    • Facilities, Buildings, and Operational Areas: All necessary infrastructure for operations, maintenance, administration, and safety, secured by a perimeter fence.
  • Standalone Power Generation Unit: Dedicated electrical power generation to ensure continuous, reliable operation of all station facilities, independent of the local grid.

The integration of compressor and metering stations, along with dedicated power supply and safety features, ensures the Iran-Oman Gas Pipeline operates at maximum efficiency, reliability, and safety, delivering strategic energy benefits to both countries.
